Retaining Wall & Ground Movement Assessment
Any type of underground construction results in excavation and possibly groundwater induced surface settlements. Understanding ground movement due to underground construction activities and their effect on overlying / underlying structures is a complex process. Buildings made of masonry are brittle and sensitive to movements; existing tunnels may also be sensitive to deformations. In certain situations, ground movements will be linked to the performance or retaining structures.
At ECG, we off an integrated approach beginning with determination of a tested ‘real-world’ ground model as a basis for identifying uncertainty at an early stage. We use the Oasys suite of numerical modelling packages to tackle complex problems, particularly where soil-structure interaction is critical.
Our approach allows us to predict surface settlements induced by tunnelling and construction of underground structures as a means to estimate damage to buildings, infrastructure and other buried services. If structural engineering design is needed, we have strong collaborative links with highly-experienced civil design engineers to help deliver a simple and effective service from conception to completion.
Our Expertise:
- Prediction of settlements using empirical and numerical analysis
- Preparation of Ground Movement Assessments
- Building impact assessment
- Conceptual design and modelling of retaining structures
